Graduated from Kaliningrad Mechanical Engineering Technical College, 1958; graduated from the Department of Electronics and Computing Technology of the Moscow Forestry Engineering Institute (especially in Spacecraft Control Systems), 1966; candidate of technical sciences degree, 1980; was selected as cosmonaut on 27.03.1973 (TsKBEM-3); Deputy Director, NPOE; from 1981 to 1989 he was flight director for the Salyut 7 space station and the MIR space station; divorced and subsequently remarried to cosmonaut Yelena Kondakova; retired on 28.10.1987; hobbies: Tennis, hunting, angling, walking through forests, travel; reactivated for the STS-91 mission; in 1998 he became director of the Russian part within the MKS program.
