Graduated from Moscow Physical-Engineering Institute, 1957; Candidate of technical sciences degree, 1980; Physicist; Engineer at Korolyov design bureau; was selected as cosmonaut on 27.05.1968 (TsKBEM-1); was involved in the Soviet Lunar landing program; first civilian, who has been a Soyuz Commander in the Interkosmos program; he was assigned for Soyuz T-11, but he caught a bad cold and was replaced by Gennadi Strekalov; later he worked on at NPOE; hobbies: Amateur-radio, driving.
