Graduated from Higher Air Force School; doctorate degree in physics, 1975; Lieutenant General, Russian Airforce, Ret.; flew 185 combat missions during World War II and was shot down three times, but could always escape; test pilot; was selected on 25.01.1964 (TsPK-2); OKP (cosmonaut basic training): 1/64 - 21.01.1965; chief of cosmonaut training; was already assigned for Voskhod 4; chief of the TsPK from 1982 to 1987; died of complications after an operation (heart failure).
