Bachelor of science in aeronautical engineering from the USAF Institute of Technology, 1954; Colonel, USAF, Ret.; he flew 10 combat missions during World War II and more then 100 in the Korean War; unsuccessful application for NASA astronaut group 1 ( would have been the 8^th member of the astronaut group 1 if there had been 8 of the selected ones instead of 7); was selected as pilot for X-20 Dyna-Soar; later again pilot in the USAF; then Commander, Test Operations, Edwards AFB, California (until 1978); later Test pilot and Director of Operations, Tracor Flight Systems Inc. in Newport Beach, California.
