Bachelor of science in aeronautics from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, 1973; master of science in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, 1974; Commander, USN, Ret.; selected in 1979 for MSE group 1, trained as USAF observer for mission STS-41C, before the USAF decided not to place an observer on this mission (late fall of 1983); his participation in the STS-41C preparations was curtailed at about the same time; he was never officially assigned as a payload specialist, or observer, for mission STS-41C; later Hughes Aircraft, Tucson, Arizona.
