He served in World-War-II as pilot of the
USN;
bachelor of science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, 1950; then test pilot
and flight research engineer at
NASA Flight Research Center, Edwards, California; was
chosen in 1960 for X-15 Program (29 flights); died on late complications
following a X-15 crash in November 1962; received his astronaut wings in 2005
(posthumly). |
