Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio was awarded only after his first space
flight (Glenn did not satisfy Muskigam's normal requirement for the number of
senior year, in-residence courses taken, however he was later granted a waiver
for this requirement and awarded a bachelor's degree.); recipient of nine
honorary doctoral degrees; 59 combat missions during World War II; he resigned
from
NASA on 16.01.1964; since 1974 member of the US Senate
